Highlights:

Swimming:

Katie Ledecky won four medals and two golds, bringing her to an historic nine career golds (more than any female swimmer in history). The Americans also grabbed two world records: Bobby Finke in the men’s 1,500-meter freestyle, and the women’s team in the 4×100-meter relay.

Gymnastics:

Simone Biles won her third gold in the vault but was edged out by Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade in the floor routine and ended up with the silver.

Track:

The American Noah Lyles took the title of fastest runner in the world by winning the men’s 100-meter final in a photo finish with Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson.

Tennis:

Novak Djokovic won his first gold medal in men’s tennis by defeating Carlos Alcaraz.
