Decoy’s First Pitch, Caitlin Breaks WNBA Rookie Record, Curry’s Contract Extension

BASEBALL

Dodger’s superstar, Shohei Ohtani, was overshadowed this week by his famous dog, Decoy. Not only did fans walk away with a bobblehead of Ohtani and his adorable pup, but Decoy also ran from the mound to home plate in a ceremonial first pitch. Watch how cute this is!

BASKETBALL

Indiana’s Caitlin Clark continues to impress. She hit her 86th 3-pointer of the season, breaking the WNBA rookie record. Before the game was over, she hit two more 3-pointers.

According to Stephen Curry’s agent, Jeff Austin, the Golden State Warriors phenom will sign a one-year $62.6 million contract extension. With the extension, Curry will make history as the first player to earn over $60 million in a single season (in 2026), and by then will record his career earnings at $532.7 million (Lebron James will pass $500 million in career earnings this year).

Aaron Judge Keeps Slugging Away, Babe Ruth’s Jersey Sells For $24 Mill, Jansen Makes History, Florida State Loses, CeeDee Lamb Ends Holdout

BASEBALL

Aaron Judge is on a roll. The Yankees six-time MLB All-Star hit his 50th and 51st home runs of the season. He’s the fifth player to ever hit 50 or more home runs in three different seasons. Babe Ruth, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez, and Mark McGwire are the other four.

Speaking of Babe Ruth, the jersey he wore when he “called the shot” sold at auction for $24 million.

Catcher Danny Jansen made history by becoming the first player to appear in the same game for two different teams. Here’s how it happened: On June 26th while Jansen was at bat for the Blue Jays, the game was suspended until August 26 due to the weather. During the time from June to August, Jansen was traded from the Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox, so on the 26th, he started with one team and finished with the other.

FOOTBALL

The first major upset of the college football season occurred in Ireland when #19 Florida State lost to Georgia Tech by a field goal as time expired.

In the NFL, Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb ended his holdout and signed a four-year $138 million contract extension (and a record $36 million signing bonus).

Cherilus Urinates On Passenger, Commanders Name Daniels Starter, Bezos And Celtics, Greenberg To Host Sunday NFL Countdown

FOOTBALL

Retired offensive tackle Gosder Cherilus (#17th overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft) was arrested for urinating on a passenger during a Delta Airlines flight from Boston to Dublin. Cherilus said, “I’d like to address the media reports about me that surfaced today regarding a situation that occurred onboard a flight to Ireland this past weekend. The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and it did not take off until after 12:30AM. In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character, and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew.”

The Washington Commanders named rookie Jayden Daniels as their starting quarterback (over Marcus Mariota). Daniels won the Heisman Trophy at LSU last season and was the #2 pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

BASKETBALL

According to rumors, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos could be in the mix to buy the Boston Celtics for around $6 billion.

OTHER

ESPN named Mike Greenberg the next host of “Sunday NFL Countdown,” replacing Sam Ponder (who was fired last week).

Aaron Judge’s 300 Career Home Run, Harbaugh Asks Kaepernick To Coach With Him, J.J. McCarthy Out For Season

BASEBALL

Aaron Judge made history by hitting his 300th career home run in record time. 162 players in MLB history have reached this milestone, but no player accomplished this feat in Judge’s 955 games and 3,431 at-bats.

FOOTBALL

Jim Harbaugh, who is back in the NFL this season as coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, reached out to Colin Kaepernick about joining his coaching staff. Harbaugh has a history with Kaepernick. Colin quarterbacked the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-1014 when Harbaugh was the team’s head coach. In 2016, Kaepernick became a controversial figure when he began kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games in protest against racial injustice and police brutality. When he became a free agent in 2017, no team would sign him.

In other football news, former Michigan championship quarterback J.J. McCarthy will be out for the entire season after undergoing meniscus surgery. The Minnesota Vikings coach said he was “crushed” by the news.

J.J. McCarthy Surgery On Knee, Will Levis’s Mayonnaise Parfum, Georgia #1, KD Invests In Paris Saint-Germain

FOOTBALL

J.J. McCarthy (Michigan quarterback drafted 10th overall in the 2024 NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings) announced he will need surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Sam Darnold will now be the official starting QB.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis loves mayonnaise so much (apparently even adds it to his coffee) he partnered with Hellman’s Mayonnaise on a mayo-inspired fragrance (not a joke) called “Will Levis No. 8 Parfum de Mayonnaise“.

The season’s first AP Top 25 poll in college football news has Georgia at #1. While that is a nice endorsement of Georgia, only 11 teams have started the season at #1 and won the national title.

SOCCER

NBA Superstar (and four-time Gold medal winner on Team USA) Kevin Durant invested in Paris Saint-Germain.

Olympic’s Memorable Weekend, Cruise Brings The Games To LA

OLYMPICS

Highlights from a memorable weekend!

The U.S. men’s basketball team won gold, beating the French national team at home. LeBron James and Kevin Durant played well, but Stephen Curry’s four 3-pointers in the last three minutes sealed the 98-87 win. This marks the U.S.’s fifth straight men’s Olympic basketball gold medal.

The U.S. women’s basketball barely edged out France to win the gold in a thrilling 67-66 win. As time expired, France’s Gabby Williams stepped on the line to hit a two-pointer rather than a three-pointer, giving the US women its 61st straight Olympic win and eight straight gold medals.

The U.S. women’s national soccer team also won gold by defeating Brazil 1-0.

The games were not without controversy, however, when U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles was awarded a bronze medal but then had it rescinded by the Court of Arbitration for filing the inquiry after the one-minute deadline.

The final medal count:

U.S. 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, 42 bronze)

China 91 medals (40 gold, 27 silver, 24 bronze)

Great Britain 65 medals (14 gold, 22 silver, 29 bronze)

Tom Cruise wrapped up the games with some pretty awesome stunts to get us excited for 2028 in LA.

US will face France on Saturday for the gold, and Serbia will play Germany for the bronze.

Noah Lyles (who won a gold medal in the 100 meters a few days ago) managed to win a bronze in the men’s 200 meters on Thursday after testing positive for covid just a few days before the race. Lyles received medical attention after the race but appeared in good spirits later when speaking with reporters. He said, “To be honest, I’m more proud of myself than anything. Coming out, getting the bronze medal with covid three days ago, it’s been a wild Olympics.”

In golf, Scottie Scheffler shot a 62 to win gold. He became the first #1 ranked golfer to win an Olympic gold.

Team USA men’s basketball head to the semifinals after destroying Brazil 122-87. Kevin Durant became the all-time leading scorer in Team USA basketball history. The US will now face Nikola Jokic and Serbia.
