Dr. Anthony Fauci will throw out the first pitch on for the Washington Nationals on Opening Day, July 23rd. The defending World Series champions will host the New York Yankees. The Nationals explained their pick by stating,  “Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title.”

San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler became the first Major League Baseball manager to kneel during the national anthem when he took a knee prior to the team’s exhibition game against the Oakland Athletics on Monday night. Many other players and personnel joined him.
