Eli Manning Retiring, Zion Williamson’s Exciting Debut

FOOTBALL

After 16 seasons at quarterback and two Super Bowl MVP’s with the New York Giants, Eli Manning announced he’s retiring. At 39 years old, Manning holds the franchise’s record for passing yards, touchdowns and completion percentage. He was drafted #1 in 2004 by the San Diego Chargers and then traded to the Giants where he played his entire career winning the Super Bowl in 2007 and 2011. Manning will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in five years, and considering he’s only one of five players (Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw and Tom Brady) in NFL history with at least two Super Bowl MVP’s, he’ll likely be a shoo-in.

BASKETBALL

Zion Williamson did not disappoint in his much-anticipated debut Wednesday night in New Orleans. He scored 22 points including 17 straight in the 4th quarter. Pelicans’ coach Alvin Gentry ultimately pulled him out before the game was over to make sure he wasn’t extending himself too much in his first official outing after his injury. The Pelicans ended up losing to the San Antonio Spurs 121-117, but the excitement of their #1 pick energized the crowd giving them great hope for the future.
