Mets And Giants Wild Card Game, Odell Beckham Jr Unsportsmanlike, Vikings 4-0, Johnny Football Trademark, Super Bowl Goes GAGA
BASEBALL
With a 5-3 victory over the Phillies on Saturday, the New York Mets clinched a National League wild card playoff spot against the San Francisco Giants. Even though both teams have the same regular season record, the winner-take-all wild card game will be played at Citi Field because the Mets won the season series over the Giants. Tune in Wednesday night 8:00 pm ET.
FOOTBALL
The big news from the Monday Night Football game is the NY Giants Odell Beckham Jr’s unsportsmanlike conduct. Odell was charged with a penalty for taunting the Minnesota Vikings Cornerback Xavier Rhodes after Rhodes hit him out of bounds. Odell ended up with a paltry 23 yards for the day and has been criticized by his teammates and the media for letting his emotions get the best of him. On a more positive note, the Minnesota Vikings offense came to play. The Vikings are now 4-0 (only other 4-0 team is the Denver Broncos). What’s most surprising about the Vikings winning season so far is the performance of Sam Bradford. Bradford is a former Heisman Trophy winner who had a mediocre career with the St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Vikings are also performing without their star running back, Adrian Peterson, who is out until at least December with a torn meniscus.  Vikings 24-Giants 10.
In other football news, former Heisman QB Johnny Manziel (who was suspended from the NFL and cut by the Cleveland Browns) and his lawyers filed with the US Patent and Trademark office to protect his nickname, “Johnny Football”. Now that Manziel has been reinstated by the NFL, it’s possible some NFL team may take a chance on the troubled QB and pick him up.
As Lady Gaga wrote on her twitter account, “This year the Super Bowl goes GAGA”, meaning after weeks of speculation, it’s official and she will play in this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
